Your Caravan Maker Has Closed. Who Fixes It Now?
Your van still needs looking after. Our Burpengary workshop services all makes and handles insurance repairs, but a closed maker's warranty is a separate question from getting the van repaired.
What the law says about your caravan
The consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law, in the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) Schedule 2, sections 54 and 55, apply to the goods once supplied. Your rights are against the business that supplied the van.
If that business has gone into liquidation, you may need to lodge a claim with the liquidator. Keep your contract, receipts, warranty documents and correspondence.
A manufacturer warranty, a separate extended warranty contract and insurance are not the same thing. Check who provides each cover and its terms rather than assuming a workshop can take over the maker's obligations.
Servicing and repairs for all makes at Burpengary
Our own on site workshop is at 290 Eastern Service Road, Burpengary QLD 4505. We handle routine servicing and repairs for all makes, including vans bought elsewhere.
Tell us what needs attention and bring any service and warranty records. We can discuss an assessment and the work required, without promising a warranty claim will be accepted.
See our workshop servicesInsurance repairs handled with your insurer
We deal directly with insurers on repair quotes, photos and approvals. Insurance cover and approval depend on your policy and the damage, not simply on whether the maker is still trading.
Speak to your insurer about the claim, then call our workshop to discuss the repair. We cannot promise a claim outcome.
Paid a deposit on a van that was never built?
For a deposit paid on a van that was never delivered, you are usually an unsecured creditor if the business goes into liquidation. Contact the liquidator about lodging a claim.
If you paid by card, ask your bank whether a chargeback is possible. Neither a claim nor a chargeback guarantees you will recover the money.
This is general information, not legal advice about your contract. Get advice on your own situation before deciding what to do.
Thinking of moving to a new van?
Sunrise Caravans is a family owned dealer at Burpengary. Compare the vans we list, check your towing numbers and ask who supplies the warranty before you commit.
