Plan the Ipswich drive and choose your toll route
From Ipswich station on Bell Street to our yard at 290 Eastern Service Rd, Burpengary, the mapped drive is about 76km and one hour and 15 minutes. That car estimate leaves out congestion and stops. The route uses the Ipswich Motorway, Centenary and Western connections, Legacy Way, Airport Link and the Bruce Highway approach.
Legacy Way and Airport Link have tolls, so compare the routes before setting off. Another crossing of Brisbane changes the distance and timing. Check current directions and leave yourself time to look through the vans properly, rather than spending the inspection thinking about the traffic on the way back.
Build an Ipswich escape around Wivenhoe
Lake Wivenhoe's operator offers caravan camping at Captain Logan and Lumley Hill. Its accommodation page separates larger caravan sites, powered sites and unpowered drive on options. That gives you different ways to plan a stay, depending on the facilities and space your household wants.
For Lumley Hill powered sites, the published concrete annex slabs are about 6 metres long and 2.5 metres wide. The operator says the van parking area is wider and longer. Those slab measurements describe the annex, not the full space available for your caravan.
Give the operator your overall dimensions, vehicle details and intended awning arrangement. Ask where the car parks and how your preferred setup fits. It is a small conversation that can save a lot of shuffling once you arrive with a full holiday load.
Heads up: the Wivenhoe pages differ on some larger site numbers, so confirm the allocation directly. Drive on sites must collect grey water for disposal at dump points. The rules list dump points at Lumley Hill and say Captain Logan has no caravan toilet dump point.
Choose a van for the way you set up camp
A couples tourer is a sensible type to compare for two people using established caravan sites. Family bunk layouts give everyone a sleeping space to test. If your wider itinerary includes permitted unsealed roads, compare semi off road and off road types against those actual routes and the individual van's specifications.
Ask to see the water and waste connections and what equipment comes with the van. Yes, the less glamorous jobs still happen on holiday. Knowing how the fittings work and where the hoses live beats figuring it out after unpacking everything else.
Upgrading? Tell us what annoyed you about the old van. Awkward hose storage, a bathroom in the walkway or gear you cannot reach gives us a useful starting point.
The next van should fix those headaches, not give them nicer cupboard doors.
Pack for the lake before you pick the extras
Write down the recreation gear and camping equipment that comes on a Wivenhoe stay. Decide what travels in the car and what goes in the van. Include passengers and towing accessories when you bring the vehicle details along, so the conversation covers the whole combination.
Every van comes with its weighbridge docket, so you know its real weight, not a brochure guess. Get unfamiliar terms explained in plain language. A different display model's figures may not describe the van you intend to buy, especially once equipment changes.
Use a public weighbridge when you need measured loaded weights, with appropriate advice on the results. Brochure numbers and a packed holiday setup are different things. Sorting that early is much better than discovering your favourite layout does not fit the vehicle after the decision feels made.
Make a Burpengary look around worthwhile
Request a video or FaceTime walkaround with your campsite questions ready. Ask for outside storage to be opened, the waste connections shown and the bed arranged as you would use it. You can then plan a physical inspection around anything the screen cannot settle.
Try the arrival routine at the yard. Reach for the gear you need first, check the kitchen access and sit where you would eat. There is no prize for the fastest inspection.
Give the everyday jobs their turn, not just the feature that caught your eye.
Sunrise sells Australian made caravans and has its own Burpengary service centre. Ask about servicing and warranty enquiries before purchase. Finetic finance can be discussed with personalised terms and approval subject to lending criteria, and you can request an Australia wide delivery quote.
Compare that quote with collecting at Burpengary using your preferred Brisbane route. Your handover happens at our Burpengary yard, with a full walkthrough before you tow away. Confirm transport details in writing and leave time for the drive and a proper inspection.
Clear arrangements are easier to work with than assumptions about what happens next.
