The mainland journey from Pialba to Burpengary
Pialba Place in Hervey Bay is about 247km from the road beside our yard at 290 Eastern Service Rd, Burpengary. The mapped car time is roughly three hours and 10 minutes before rest stops or roadworks. It follows the Bruce Highway and Maryborough connections, then Maryborough Hervey Bay Road towards Pialba.
Use your own Fraser Coast address for the final directions. The shopping centre is just a reference point. If collecting a van, allow time for the full handover at our Burpengary yard, breaks and a slower tow home with a new combination. Check the route and road conditions before choosing your travel dates.
Start with the mainland part of the holiday
Think about where the caravan will stay while you explore the Fraser Coast. Established mainland accommodation gives you a base for day trips and island excursions that do not require the van to follow. Confirm accommodation and any storage arrangements with the operator before building the itinerary around them.
For two people touring between caravan parks, compare couples layouts with usable seating and easy bed access. Family bunk vans are worth a look when everyone comes along. You can spend the inspection testing how people move through the van rather than arguing over which feature looks best online.
If permitted unsealed mainland routes are part of the plan, compare semi off road and off road types using the actual route and individual specifications. Separate those towing days from outings made in the car or on an organised trip. That keeps the buying brief honest and useful.
Heads up: plan K'gari separately from the caravan stay. Queensland Parks advises against caravans, recommending high clearance 4WDs and suitable off road trailers; low clearance access can be impassable. Check soft sand towing, coupling articulation and recovery equipment yourself rather than relying on rangers, and follow the permit, conditions and dingo guidance below.
Choose comfort for the days between excursions
Open the storage and picture your own gear in it. Big things need a spot you can reach, not just a deep looking cupboard. Where will the chairs, outdoor cooking kit and footwear go?
Check it as if you were packed for departure.
Sit down for an imaginary meal, then try bathroom access with the bed ready for sleeping. If one person turns in early, can the other still use the living area? Those ordinary movements tell you more about comfort than a feature you might use twice a year.
Bring your appliance list and tell us how often you use campsite power. Ask what the actual van's setup can support. Independent camping still means managing what you use.
Lithium and solar on a brochure are not a promise that every appliance runs without limits.
Get your towing shortlist right from the first call
Send the vehicle details and towing accessory information early. Include the passengers, luggage and equipment that travel in the car as well as the van. A holiday combination carries more than the items neatly listed on a caravan specification sheet.
Every van comes with its weighbridge docket, so you know its real weight, not a brochure guess. Get the terms explained until they make sense. Keep unanswered compatibility questions on a list rather than hoping they will disappear once you have found a layout you love.
A public weighbridge can give you actual loaded measurements when those are needed. Seek suitable advice about the results. This is worth doing properly: a comfortable caravan still needs to fit the vehicle and the way you pack for a Fraser Coast trip.
Use a video request to save the unnecessary drive
Our only showroom is in Burpengary, not Hervey Bay. Request a video or FaceTime walkaround with a short list of things to see. Cupboards opened, beds arranged and a clear look at the bathroom are more useful than another tour of the van's best camera angles.
Use an inspection for the things you need to try yourself. Reach into storage, sit down and walk through your morning routine. Give each layout the same everyday jobs.
You will soon see which one works for you.
Sunrise sells Australian made vans and operates its own Burpengary service centre. Live on the Fraser Coast? Warranty work is handled through a national warranty network, so you are not towing back here for every fix.
Finance through Finetic can be discussed with personalised terms and approval subject to lending criteria, alongside an Australia wide delivery quote.
Every van is handed over at our Burpengary yard, where we walk you through it before you tow away. Confirm any delivery arrangements in writing. If you come down from Pialba or elsewhere on the coast, allow time for the inspection and breaks on the return.
Choosing the right van is the point of the trip, not beating a navigation estimate.
