Make room for the Bruce Highway journey from Mackay
Central Mackay's Dudley Denny City Library precinct is about 927km from the road beside our Burpengary yard. The mapped route follows the Bruce Highway through Childers, Gin Gin, Rockhampton and Sarina, then local streets into Mackay. Driving time adds up to about 11 hours and 45 minutes before breaks or delays.
That is car time added together, not a one day towing plan. Build in rest and overnight stops, plus time for your handover at our Burpengary yard and getting to know the van. Our only showroom is at 290 Eastern Service Rd, Burpengary. A video request can help you decide whether the trip south makes sense.
Build a stay around Smalleys Beach
Smalleys Beach camping area is in Cape Hillsborough National Park. The official map shows numbered sites, an unsealed approach and campground facilities. Use that information to start planning an actual stay, rather than choosing a van around a destination photograph with no idea where you will park it.
Check the current conventional vehicle access information and your chosen site's suitability with Queensland Parks. Give them the caravan dimensions, where the tow vehicle will sit and the awning space you want. Sleeping capacity alone does not describe the footprint of your setup.
Think about how you would spend an ordinary day there. What comes out first, where do the chairs go and how will you cook? Those answers give the storage and electrical conversation something useful to work with before you compare equipment lists.
Heads up: Smalleys Beach prohibits generators and domestic animals, and provides no rubbish bins. Plan power, pets and contained rubbish storage before booking. Check current alerts and have a fallback stay if the access or site does not fit.
Compare the power setup by what you use
List the appliances you expect to use each day. Include device charging, meal preparation and the little things that are easy to forget. Ask what this van's electrical setup supports in the conditions you expect.
The biggest system label is not an answer on its own.
Separate essential use from optional use. That gives a power discussion a sensible starting point and lets you compare choices against the same routine. Lithium and solar can be useful tools, but the weather and your use still matter.
A specification sheet is not an unlimited electricity account.
For established caravan parks, touring layouts are worth comparing for comfort and everyday space. For permitted unsealed routes, look at semi off road and off road types against the actual access and individual van specifications. Family bunk layouts belong on the list when everyone needs their own sleeping space.
Make the campground jobs easy to live with
Find a spot for contained rubbish and the kit that keeps camp tidy. Can you reach it without unloading everything else? Work that out during the inspection.
Your clean bedding should not have to share its cupboard with the rubbish bag.
Look at outside storage with your own chairs, hoses and cooking kit in mind. A large compartment earns its keep when the opening and position suit those items. Try reaching what you need first on arrival, not just looking into an empty space.
Treat the bathroom and kitchen as working areas. Ask to see taps, access panels and normal operating steps. Try the beds and seating in their everyday arrangement.
The goal is understanding how the van will work for your household, not collecting another set of photographs.
Sort the long distance questions before travelling
Send the tow vehicle specifications, accessory details and expected passenger load early. Every van comes with its weighbridge docket, so you know its real weight, not a brochure guess. A public weighbridge can provide measured loaded figures when needed, with appropriate advice to help interpret them.
Ask for a remote walkaround with your camping questions ready. Electrical controls, outside storage and the bathroom routine are all worth seeing. Keep the camera on what matters to you.
Then decide what still needs a hands on check at Burpengary.
Our only showroom and our own service centre are at Burpengary. We sell Australian made vans. Warranty work is handled through a national warranty network, so living in Mackay does not mean towing back to Burpengary for every fix.
Finance through Finetic can be discussed with personalised terms and approval subject to lending criteria. Ask for an Australia wide delivery quote and compare it with collection. All handovers happen at our Burpengary yard, where we explain the van before you tow away.
Confirm transport scope in writing and allow proper rest and overnight stops if you choose to tow home to Mackay.
